Track Characteristics

Road America is one of the greatest natural road courses in the world. Stretching 4.048 miles through the rolling Wisconsin countryside near Elkhart Lake, it is the longest track on the IndyCar calendar and one that has barely changed since it opened in 1955. The circuit sits on 640 acres of pristine landscape, surrounded by thick forests and gentle hills that give it the feel of a European grand prix circuit transplanted to the American Midwest.

Several corners define the Road America experience. The Carousel is a sweeping, long-duration left-hander that tests sustained cornering commitment. Canada Corner is a blind, high-speed right-hander that rewards bravery. But the most famous section is the Kink - a flat-out, high-speed bend taken at over 180 mph that tests a driver's nerve like few corners in motorsport. The slightest hesitation through the Kink costs tenths of a second; a mistake can cost everything.

The long straights at Road America produce some of the highest speeds on the IndyCar calendar outside of ovals. Cars routinely exceed 200 mph on the front and back straights, creating enormous braking zones that are prime overtaking territory. The combination of high-speed straights, technical corners, and significant elevation changes makes Road America a true driver's track that consistently produces exciting racing.
