Team History

Team Penske is one of the most successful racing organizations in the world, competing at the highest levels of motorsport across NASCAR, IndyCar, and formerly Formula 1. Founded by Roger Penske, the team entered NASCAR in the early 1970s but became a full-time Cup Series presence in 1991 when Rusty Wallace joined the organization. Penske's reputation for meticulous preparation and operational excellence - "The Captain" demands every detail be perfect - quickly made the team a contender.

Rusty Wallace gave the team its early NASCAR identity, winning consistently throughout the 1990s in the iconic No. 2 Miller Lite Ford. Wallace's blue and white Ford became one of the most recognizable cars in NASCAR, and his 37 wins with the team established Penske as a permanent fixture in the Cup Series garage. However, the team's first Cup championship would not come until Brad Keselowski arrived.

Keselowski won the 2012 Cup championship driving the No. 2 Ford, giving Roger Penske his first stock car title after decades of IndyCar success. The championship validated Penske's commitment to NASCAR and opened the floodgates. Joey Logano joined the team in 2013 and won titles in 2018 and 2022, while Ryan Blaney added the 2023 championship, giving the organization four Cup titles in just over a decade.

What makes Team Penske remarkable is the scope of Roger Penske's racing empire. The same organization runs competitive IndyCar entries, owns Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and has won a record 19 Indianapolis 500s. That cross-pollination of engineering talent, data analysis, and operational excellence gives Penske's NASCAR program resources and expertise that few teams can match. With Blaney sitting P2 in the 2026 standings and Logano always dangerous in the playoffs, Team Penske remains one of the favorites for the championship every single year.
