Team History
Meyer Shank Racing is one of the great underdog stories in modern IndyCar. Founded by Mike Shank in 1994 as a sports car racing team, MSR spent more than two decades building a reputation for excellence in IMSA sports car competition before expanding into IndyCar. Jim Meyer joined as co-owner, providing additional resources and business expertise that helped fuel the team's growth. Based in Pataskala, Ohio, the team operates with a grassroots mentality and a deep passion for racing that permeates every corner of its operation.
MSR's sports car credentials are impeccable. The team has won multiple races in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, including the prestigious Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2021 and 2022 with Acura. These victories demonstrated that MSR could compete with - and beat - factory-backed teams at the highest level of endurance racing. The success in sports cars gave the team the credibility and financial foundation to pursue its IndyCar ambitions on a larger scale.
The team's IndyCar journey began with part-time entries in the Indianapolis 500 before expanding to a full-time program. The signature moment came in 2021 when Helio Castroneves, racing an MSR entry in the Indianapolis 500, won his record-tying fourth Indy 500 victory. Castroneves' win was one of the most emotional moments in recent Indy 500 history, as the beloved Brazilian climbed the fence one final time at age 46 to celebrate his remarkable achievement. That victory put Meyer Shank Racing on the map and proved that smaller teams can achieve greatness at Indianapolis. For 2026, the team fields two full-time entries with Felix Rosenqvist and New Zealand's Marcus Armstrong, while Castroneves returns for another Indy 500-only attempt in the iconic #06 car. Mike Shank's passion for racing and commitment to building something special continues to drive MSR forward in one of the most competitive eras in IndyCar history.

Indianapolis 500 Victories
Meyer Shank Racing won the Indianapolis 500 in 2021 with Helio Castroneves. It was Castroneves' fourth Indy 500 victory, tying him with A.J. Foyt, Al Unser, and Rick Mears for the most wins in the history of the race. The victory remains the defining moment in MSR's history and one of the most popular results in modern Indy 500 lore.
