Team History
Kaulig Racing was founded by Matt Kaulig, the CEO of LeafFilter Gutter Protection, in 2016 as an Xfinity Series team. Kaulig took a methodical approach to building his organization, starting in NASCAR's second-tier series and gradually developing the infrastructure, personnel, and expertise needed to compete at the highest level. The team quickly became one of the strongest in the Xfinity Series, winning multiple races and contending for championships.
A.J. Allmendinger was central to Kaulig's Xfinity success. The veteran driver, who had been released from his Cup ride at JTG Daugherty Racing, found a second act with Kaulig in the Xfinity Series and became one of the most dominant road course racers in the series. Allmendinger's experience and racecraft helped elevate the entire organization, and his victories on road courses became a signature of the Kaulig brand.
Kaulig made the jump to the Cup Series in 2022, initially running a part-time schedule before committing to full-time competition. The transition to Cup was challenging, as the jump from Xfinity to Cup requires a massive increase in budget, personnel, and technical capability. However, Kaulig's success in the Xfinity Series gave the team a proven development model and the confidence that it could compete at NASCAR's top level with patience and investment.
The team's move to Toyota aligned it with Joe Gibbs Racing's technical ecosystem, providing access to manufacturer resources that are essential for smaller teams trying to close the gap to the established powerhouses. With Allmendinger's road course prowess and Ty Dillon's experience, Kaulig is building toward consistent competitiveness in the Cup Series. Matt Kaulig's willingness to invest for the long term and his track record of building a championship-caliber Xfinity program give the team a realistic path to Cup success.
Cup Championships
Kaulig Racing has not yet won a Cup Series championship. The team continues to build toward consistent frontrunner status.
