- #47 Ricky Stenhouse Jr. - The 2023 Daytona 500 winner and two-time Xfinity Series champion. Stenhouse is known as one of the most dangerous superspeedway racers in the Cup field and brings consistent effort every weekend.
Team History
Hyak Motorsports is one of the newer names on the Cup Series grid, but the team's roots go back much further through its predecessor, JTG Daugherty Racing. The team was rebranded as Hyak Motorsports, bringing fresh identity and renewed ambition to what had been a long-running mid-pack operation. The No. 47 has been a fixture in the Cup garage for years, and Hyak continues that tradition with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. behind the wheel.
JTG Daugherty Racing was co-owned by Tad Geschickter and Gordon Smith, later adding Brad Daugherty - the former NBA player and ESPN analyst - as a co-owner. The team spent years developing from a start-and-park operation into a competitive single-car team, with A.J. Allmendinger and later Chris Buescher driving the No. 47 to respectable finishes. Buescher's surprise win at Pocono in the rain in 2016 was a high point for the organization during its JTG Daugherty era.
Stenhouse joined the team and brought immediate credibility with his 2023 Daytona 500 victory, one of the most thrilling Great American Races in recent memory. Stenhouse had been a two-time Xfinity Series champion with Roush Fenway Racing before moving to Cup, and his superspeedway prowess made him a constant threat at Daytona and Talladega. The Daytona 500 win was the crowning achievement of a career spent grinding for results with underdog teams.
As Hyak Motorsports, the team continues to run the No. 47 Chevrolet with a lean, focused operation. Single-car teams face inherent disadvantages in modern NASCAR, where data sharing between teammates and economies of scale favor multi-car organizations. But Stenhouse's talent and the team's determination keep the No. 47 competitive on a weekly basis, particularly on restrictor-plate tracks where Stenhouse is always a threat to win. The Hyak name brings fresh energy to an organization with a long history of perseverance.
Cup Championships
