Team Principal - Mike Krack

Mike Krack is a Luxembourgish motorsport engineer and team principal who took charge of the Aston Martin F1 team in 2022. Born in 1972, Krack studied mechanical engineering before beginning a career in motorsport that spanned BMW's touring car program, their F1 engine partnership with Sauber, and senior engineering roles at Porsche and BMW Motorsport. His broad technical experience across multiple racing disciplines gives him a unique perspective in the F1 paddock. Krack was appointed team principal as part of Lawrence Stroll's ambitious plan to transform Aston Martin into a championship-winning operation. His calm and methodical approach has helped manage expectations during a period of massive investment and infrastructure growth. Krack works closely with Adrian Newey, who joined the team in 2025 as managing technical partner, and the pair are tasked with building a car capable of challenging for the world championship. While the 2026 car has yet to deliver on its promise, Krack's steady leadership is seen as essential to the long-term project.

Team History

The team currently known as Aston Martin has a long and winding history under many different names. Its roots trace back to Jordan Grand Prix, founded by Eddie Jordan in 1991. Jordan became one of the most colorful and competitive independent teams in F1 during the 1990s, with Damon Hill, Ralf Schumacher, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen all winning races. The team was sold and rebranded as Midland in 2006, then became Spyker in 2007, before being acquired by Vijay Mallya and renamed Force India in 2008.

Force India became a remarkable story of a low-budget team consistently punching above its weight. Under the technical leadership of Andrew Green, the team regularly finished in the top five of the constructors' championship despite having one of the smallest budgets on the grid. Sergio Perez, Nico Hulkenberg, and Esteban Ocon all delivered impressive results during this era. In 2018, the team entered administration and was purchased by a consortium led by Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll, who rebranded it as Racing Point.

Racing Point scored a sensational victory at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix with Perez, but Stroll's larger vision was always to transform the team into the works Aston Martin outfit. The rebrand came in 2021, and Stroll poured hundreds of millions into new facilities, including a state-of-the-art factory and wind tunnel at Silverstone. The 2023 season saw a breakthrough, with Fernando Alonso scoring eight podiums in the first eight races and the team emerging as genuine frontrunners. However, development stalled in the second half of that season, and 2024 was disappointing.

The biggest move came when Adrian Newey, the most successful car designer in F1 history, left Red Bull and joined Aston Martin as managing technical partner. His influence is expected to reshape the team's technical direction, but his impact will take time to fully materialize. The switch from Mercedes to Honda power units for 2026 has added another variable, and the team has struggled in the early rounds with zero points through three races. For Alonso, now 44 years old, time is running short to add to his two world championships. The Aston Martin project remains one of the most ambitious in modern F1 - the question is whether the investment and talent will come together before Alonso's incredible career reaches its conclusion.
