Biography

Scott Dixon is widely regarded as the greatest IndyCar driver of the modern era and one of the finest open-wheel racers in the history of the sport. Born in Brisbane, Australia, but raised in Auckland, New Zealand, Dixon has been a New Zealand sporting icon for more than two decades. His six IndyCar Series championships (2003, 2008, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020) tie him with A.J. Foyt for the most in CART/IndyCar history, and his 59 career victories place him third on the all-time wins list behind only Foyt and Mario Andretti.

Dixon arrived in American open-wheel racing in 2001 after a stunning junior career in New Zealand and Australia. He won a race as a rookie and quickly established himself as a future star. His move to Chip Ganassi Racing in 2002 began one of the most remarkable driver-team partnerships in motorsport history. For more than two decades, Dixon and Ganassi have worked together with a level of mutual trust and shared ambition that is virtually unmatched in any racing series anywhere in the world.

What separates Dixon from his peers is his extraordinary consistency. While he is capable of blinding one-lap speed and dramatic overtakes, his defining quality is an almost superhuman ability to finish every race and maximize every point. He rarely crashes, seldom makes strategic errors, and never seems to have a truly terrible weekend. This relentless consistency, combined with his outright pace, is what has produced six championships across seventeen seasons - a record of sustained excellence that stands comparison with the greatest careers in any form of motorsport.

His 2008 Indianapolis 500 victory remains one of the proudest moments in New Zealand sporting history. Dixon dominated the race and cemented his reputation as a complete driver capable of winning on ovals, road courses, and street circuits alike. At 45 years old in 2026, he sits tenth in the championship with 85 points and shows no signs of retirement. His experience and racecraft mean he remains a factor every weekend, and his pursuit of a record-breaking seventh championship continues. When Dixon eventually retires, he will almost certainly be inducted into every relevant hall of fame on the first ballot - a future Hall of Famer still adding to his legend.
