Biography

Mick Schumacher carries one of the most famous names in all of motorsport. The son of seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, Mick has spent his entire career navigating the weight of expectation that comes with the family legacy while forging his own path in racing.

Mick's junior career was impressive by any standard. He won the 2018 FIA Formula 3 European Championship and followed it up with the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship, earning his promotion to Formula 1 with the Haas F1 Team for the 2021 season. Over two seasons with Haas, Mick made 43 Grand Prix starts, scoring points twice with a pair of eighth-place finishes at Silverstone and the Red Bull Ring in 2022. When Haas chose not to retain him for 2023, Mick took on a reserve driver role with Mercedes before moving to the World Endurance Championship with Alpine.

The move to IndyCar for 2026 represents a fresh chapter. Signed by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing to drive the No. 47 Honda, Mick is making his first foray into American open-wheel racing. His preparation included a 97-lap oval rookie test at Homestead-Miami Speedway in February 2026, where he was coached by former IndyCar driver Ryan Briscoe. The transition from F1 and sports cars to IndyCar's diverse schedule of ovals, road courses, and street circuits is one of the biggest challenges of his career.

Mick's debut season has been a learning experience typical of international drivers adapting to IndyCar. The speed and close competition of the series, combined with the unique demands of oval racing, present a different challenge than anything he faced in Europe. His first Indianapolis 500 in May will be the most significant race of his career to date - and the one the entire motorsport world will be watching.
