Biography

Esteban Ocon is a French Formula 1 driver whose career is a remarkable story of perseverance against financial adversity. Born on September 17, 1996 in Evreux, France, Ocon's family famously sold their home and lived in a caravan to fund his junior racing career. That sacrifice paid off when he rose through the ranks to become a Formula 1 race winner and a respected figure on the grid.

Ocon made his F1 debut with Manor Racing in 2016 before moving to Force India for 2017 and 2018, where he frequently battled teammate Sergio Perez in closely matched machinery. Despite strong performances, he lost his seat when the team was sold and was forced to spend 2019 as Mercedes' reserve driver. He returned with Renault (later Alpine) in 2020 and delivered the highlight of his career - a stunning victory at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix, his maiden and so far only win in Formula 1.

His time at Alpine from 2020 to 2024 was productive but sometimes turbulent, particularly his well-documented friction with teammate Pierre Gasly. For 2026, Ocon moved to Haas, where he has been paired with the young Oliver Bearman. With 1 point after three races, Ocon is working to help develop the Haas car while contributing his experience to the team's growth.

At 29, Ocon brings valuable knowledge and a strong work ethic to Haas. His ability to maximize results in midfield machinery has been demonstrated throughout his career, and he remains a driver capable of producing exceptional results when the opportunity presents itself.
