Biography
Conor Daly is one of the most recognizable and beloved figures in the Indianapolis 500 paddock. Born and raised in Noblesville, Indiana - just a short drive from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway - Daly grew up with the race in his blood. His father, Derek Daly, was a former Formula 1 and CART driver who competed in 14 countries and made the transition to American open-wheel racing, establishing deep roots in the Indianapolis racing community.
The younger Daly followed in his father's footsteps, pursuing a career in European single-seaters before returning to the United States to race in IndyCar. He has since become a fixture at the Indianapolis 500, where his 2026 attempt will mark his 13th start in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. While a full-time IndyCar ride has been elusive in recent years, Daly's commitment to the Indy 500 has never wavered.
At the Brickyard, Daly has proven he belongs among the best. He has recorded five top-10 finishes, led 82 laps across his starts, and most memorably led the most laps of any driver during the 2021 race with 40 laps out front. His 2024 performance was equally impressive - he gained 19 positions during the race, showcasing the racecraft and determination that have made him a perennial contender on race day.
For 2026, Daly returns to Dreyer and Reinbold Racing, a partnership that has become one of the most reliable Indy 500-only programs in the field. With Kingspan as his primary sponsor, Daly will pilot the No. 23 Chevrolet with one goal in mind - reaching Victory Lane at the track he has called his backyard his entire life. His deep knowledge of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, combined with his natural oval-racing ability, makes him a threat every time he takes the green flag in May.
