Biography
Alexander Rossi is one of the most accomplished American open-wheel racers of his generation. Born and raised in Northern California, Rossi pursued the European racing ladder from a young age, working his way through Formula BMW, GP3, and GP2 before earning a spot on the Formula 1 grid with Manor Marussia Racing in 2015. He made five F1 starts that season, becoming one of the few Americans to race in Formula 1 in the modern era.
Rossi's career took a defining turn in 2016 when he entered the NTT IndyCar Series full-time with Andretti Autosport. In just his first Indianapolis 500 start, Rossi pulled off one of the most stunning victories in the race's history. Running low on fuel in the closing laps, he stretched his final tank to the finish line and won the 100th running of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. He became the first rookie to win the Indy 500 since Helio Castroneves in 2001 and the first American rookie winner since Louis Meyer in 1928.
With Andretti Autosport, Rossi developed into a consistent front-runner, racking up seven more victories and finishing second in the championship in 2018 and 2019. He was a fixture on the podium and proved adept on every type of circuit - street courses, road courses, and ovals alike. His aggressive driving style and racecraft made him a fan favorite throughout his time with the team.
After moving to Arrow McLaren SP and then to Ed Carpenter Racing, Rossi has continued to bring veteran experience and speed. Now in his second season with ECR, he pilots the No. 20 Chevrolet alongside teammate Christian Rasmussen. At 34, Rossi remains hungry for victories and is determined to add more wins - and potentially a second Indy 500 triumph - to his impressive resume.
